I definitely think it's worth it, as it flows extremely well, which is more critical than trying to filter out the smallest particle, especially in an LT1 which can tolerate 15 micron particles fairly well (one of the reasons these engines last so long)
Here is a recent independant oil filter test which shows how well the K&N flows:

I use the K&N HP3002 oil filter, along with the German 0w30 Castrol Syntec, and that combination has given me the lowest engine wear numbers I've ever seen for an LT1 engine. (through oil analysis)

I've got one, and it's constructed very well on the inside. BTW, never use a fram! Their crap. They use to be good, but now someone else makes them, and they have a cardboard end cap, which I just don't trust. If nothing else the K&N has the cool 1" socket adapter on the end of it!

Seriously though, it is the nicest filter I've seen for the LT1 by far. Lately I only put about 4-5K miles on my car a year and when I do I'm usually driving it like I stole it. So paying $9 for the best filter out there that I only change once or twice a year at most isn't a big deal to me.FYI, Pep Boys now has this filter on the shelf for $9.99 which is cool (at least the one here does) I used to have to order them from Summit or other places.

I use synthetic, and change my oil every 3K (god knows how many times the prev owner changed it)
is the 3002 too long? i wouldnt want it scraping the ground when i go over bumps and stuff (i'm not lowered)

I recently went to a pennzoil representative meeting and learned alot about these filters. The reason these filters have such a high flow rate is because the percantage of what is filtered is low. Factory specs for filtering is around 70-90%. That is what the factory filters can filter out and are relatively good. These K&N filters and Mobil 1 filters filter only about 30%. The reason they flow so good is because it doesnt filter down to the smallest microns. It pretty much like taking a normail screen and running oil through it. Its just not getting the small particles and in turn you get the higher flow rate. The best filtering filters out there are normally AC Delco for our cars.
