It happens maybe once a day, sometimes not at all. Drive to and from work, and usually somewhere in the afternoon after work. I'll hear it for 10 seconds, then i won't hear it again the rest of the day. Sometimes I won't hear it at all the whole day.

And it gets faster as I speed up.

Well its funny because most of the time it sounds like its coming from right beneath my feet, so I'm thinking its the tranny mount, even tho its brand new. Other times it sounds like its coming from the rear end. I've only got 49,000 Km. I just keep thinking that its the u-joints or maybe an unbalanced driveshaft. I'll check all those things out tonight.

If your sound goes with your speed... if the sound is kinda like a low roar... that could be the wheel hub bearing right?

I get the same thing, but I am pretty sure it only started after I did my own gear install. I'm pretty sure that the backlash was a little too much, and thats where the sound is coming from.

In mine it almost feels like someone rear-ended you for a second, only to look in the mirror like an idiot to not see anyone there. I get it mostly at parking lot speeds (5-10) and every once in a while from about a 40 mph roll, both times when you let off the gas.

I'm going to get new gears installed by a local shop and have them check everything else while their in there. 3.42's weren't that great after all, 3.73's or 4.10's here I come.

Re: Kill me now. klunk sound when i let off gas.

my car does the exact same thing! A good test is to put it in "1st" and cruise at like 10mph, give it gas, then get off, gas, off, gass off, and it will clunk like no other. I just got a new poly trans mount but my a4 has done this for a while. Could it be U-joints? If its drivetrain slack how do you fix that?
I also have a 93 formula w/ the non electronic 4L06?

Is the torque arm, that long bar that goes inside the tranny tunnel and starts somewhere near the trans and goes to the rear?

Re: Kill me now. klunk sound when i let off gas.

I hardly doubt that its my rear end gears, there untouched with 50,000Km.
I checked my LCA's and there tight.
I Looked at my new poly tranny mount and its fine.
I looked at my torque arm bushing and along the bottom of the mount mine has a split from front to back. Is it supposed to be like that. Looking at it i don't think it makes a differance because the torque arm is still surronded by plenty of bushing.
The differential is solid with no play. I"m thinking maybe pinion agle due to the shim in the tranny mount. Should I pull the shim out?
Man I really wanna solve this. I'm tempted to change my gear fluid, maybe its low.??????

Is there no one who has solved this problem. I don't even know where to take it, because they won't even know where to look or what to do. I do all my own work pretty much. I'm tempted to pull out my tranny mount and put the stocker back in and go from there. Then move on to an aluminum driveshaft with new u-joints then on to new gears.

Aamco should be able to help. But then you didn't put your city and state in your profile so we don't know if you even have a local Aamco or Cottman shop. If you eliminate the drive train as the cause, the next stop is a frame/alignment shop.

Oh yeah, have you checked the clearance of the LT's?

Re: Kill me now. klunk sound when i let off gas.

Well i'm from canada, so our shops are a little differant up here, but i'm sure a tranny/diff shop could help, as long as they know there ****.

My longtubes are clearing the floor and the tranny brace. OTher than those 2 spots not sure where else they could bump.

I"ll mess with it this week and reply back in a few days.
