Key lock cylinder or ignition switch?
Starting last week, When I turned the key, there would be a second or two hesitation, then the car's starter would kick in and start. During that hesitation, the car's power would seem to go but then the starter would kick in. Well now, when I turn the key to the "on" position, the lights on the dash do not come on (S.E.S light, ABS Light, etc) When I turn the key on, the radio and lights still work, but nothing else comes on. No Fuel pump, nothing. I just bought a new battery yesterday and it didnt fix it. Is it the key lock cylinder or ignition switch?

I would say it points to the ignition switch. The gauge cluster lights and such are mechanically operated by the switch via the key cylinder rod and does not care if the cylinder can read the key pellet.

pretty much same thing happend to me recently, couldnt start car, no idiot lights, nothin. Turns out it was my ignition switch, one of the metal terminals burnt out. Replaced Ignition switch and fired right up.

Can someone give me instructions on how to change the ignition switch? The haynes book does not show how to fix it. I dont have to take the steering wheel off do I?

Just finished ignition switch R&R. I kinda rushed it, so if you see any spelling or other obvious problems, email me. There has been a rash of these dying lately, so I though I would hurry it up.
