Keeping comp rockers from coming loose?
Keeping comp rockers from coming loose?
Second time I've had this crap happen to me now.
Poly locks have been tightened properly, and the damn things keep coming loose on me and causing damage. Anyone have any thoughts as to what I can do to keep this from happening? Any tricks to the polylocks I'm missing.
Setting lash with engine running, getting to 0, 1/8 turn preload, tightening polylocks..
Can't see any other way of doing it?
*edit*
We set lash before we did the 2k break in or any operation time. Could it be once the lifters received their oil during break-in and runtime the lash changed and ended up loosening the rocker from what we did?

Re: Keeping comp rockers from coming loose?
Yah I have thought about some thread locker, being a little tough doesn't bother me, I'd probably just use threadlocker blue. Just not sure it's compatible with the polylock material?
Re: Keeping comp rockers from coming loose?
Quit being a nancy boy and get a good long allen wrench and torque 'em down. They shouldn't need threadlocker and if they keep coming loose then you have other issues.
What type rockers, studs, and poly locks?

Re: Keeping comp rockers from coming loose?
The poly locks with the pro mags have never given me trouble, on any car. Get an allen you can tug on. Tighten those things down.
I usually leave mine a little on the loose side. Little less than 1/4 turn with oem style lifters. Then I hold the nut while tightning the poly lock. Then for good measure I use a ratchet after they are all done and give each one a quick tug, further tightning the poly in the process.

Re: Keeping comp rockers from coming loose?
Hell, I did one better.. I have the right hex socket to use w/ my 3/8" ratchet.
Allright.. I'll tighten them down till they feel like they're gonna snap :P

Re: Keeping comp rockers from coming loose?
As said above, keep a wrench on the outer poly lock while you tighten the locking part with your hex socket to keep the lash adjustment from changing.

Re: Keeping comp rockers from coming loose?
I had the same problem....3 times. Tighten the lock and then give the nut a little turn with the wrench/socket. Of course taking note the final adjustment of the rocker. Did that to all of them and a year later, not a single problem.
Re: Keeping comp rockers from coming loose?
I think the problem isn't in how tight you guys are tightening them but how you guys are doing it.
I tighten the nut till just before zero lash. Then snug down the poly lock with the allen key. Then using both the allen key and the wrench, I give both the lock and the bolt another 1/16th of a turn so its at zero lash.
Using this method I've never had one come loose.

Javier, sorry this happened...
But I am kinda glad that you asked this question, since I was just going to set lash then tighten the poly's. Guess I will folow the other method now with mine...
