K&N on 96-97 SS not recomended
Just wondering f anybosy ever checked this out
those who are using the K&N air filter from the jeeps and other that fit the 96-97 SS is not recommended..
Q. Can I Use the K&N Filter on My SS?
Absolutely not! Contrary to adds run by Lingenfelter and others K&N specifically has told us that their filters cannot currently be used on the 96-97 Camaro SS. Although they may look like they fit, under pressure they leak air and dirt into the manifold and for this reason are NOT RECOMMENDED. List members who have tried them have since gone back to the standard air filters. The filter that they have claimed fit is the K&N # 33-2018 for the Jeep 2.5L, 4.0L F/I Panel Filter. Please folks don't use it.

I dont actually have a part number. I just remember on the SLP forum most 96-97 SS changed to Holley from K&N. Most guys had same problem and I remember everyone said Holley made one. I'll look but cant guarantee anything.
Holley filter 221-5 (13.5x6.625x1.0), just to confirm the post above.
I ran the K&N Filter #33-2084 for 5 years. It was the best aftermarket I could find at the time. I had to add a foam rubber strip around the box to ensure a proper seal. I decide to buy a new better fitting Holley. The Holley fits perfectly and seems to be a little better quality that the K&N.

K&N ok, but Holley better because the pleats are vertical and not horizontal like the K&N.

Can you help me out here, i have a 97 t/a with the ram air package and the k&n filter that came with the kit has vertical peats, is this still ok to use?
i do notice alot of crap that the filter catches like bugs & dirt.

If K&N doesn't recommend the use of one of their products on an SS, what that tells me is they haven't done enough research into developing one for the SS. I would buy a Holley rather than just take K&N's advice and just leave a paper filter in there.
