Just replaced GM Tranny mount with Energy Suspensions Poly
Ok, so I knew I had a bad mount after the usual symptoms, as far as I know, this is the stock mount that came from GM, previous and only owner before me did not beat on the car at all from the looks of it.
After putting a few passes at the track, and 3.73' gears, a "typical" fbody road merge later, I got a big bump and a smell of burned rubber.
Unforuntely it was not the tires.
So ordered a new ES Poly mount from jegs, and today, had a chance to replace it, the mount has not been changed since incident late last fall, and finally jersey got GREAT weather, so went ahead and changed it.
I used the writeup from Fbody Install yet the mount support is different from ls1's.
So after a few runs to home depot and napa, finally got hte right deep socket wrenches, the stock mount is absolutely horrid to get at with regular sockets.
For those wanting to replace the mount with a new one, make sure.... you have a DEEP 15mm socket and a deep 13mm would not hurt either. Torque wrench is a must, god I love my torque wrench, I have developed a relationship with it, especially after doing breaks with it.
Once you have the right tools it was quick, it took me about an hour once i got the tools, and this was already in the dark.
After I changed it, really cleans up the look a bit, and took it for a test drive.
That is where the fun begins. If you install it right you do not get any more shaking, in fact the car feels alot stiffer, had no problems chirping gears from a roll (with big ol 315's) keep in mind.
I absolutely had a blast.
Here are pics of hte old mount. as soon as i took it off, I picked up up by the bolt and it completely broke apart in two...I guess good thing I replaced it now. lol. Before this, I was driving a car from a roll, let the car roll out and never down****ed, lol.
