I remember right after mine cracked, I ran and did a search and found 2 other people who had it happen as well........ It was the end that the filter goes in to, about 1 inch cracked off. It was really no biggie, I ended up getting a bigger K&N and putting it on the end (the one from the 96-up trucks). It worked fine, I just wanted the look of SLP. BTW, when it cracked -- I was on the ground under the car trying to push it out the top so i could grab it with my other hand and take it out. It fell from the level of the front of the hood and cracked, wasnt a hard or high fall at all.

 

I had the K & N on my car when I bought it but liked the SLP over it. I bought the SLP but didnt like the black powder coat so I repainted it dark cherry red looks good to me now also bring out a little color under the hood.
