Just got my 96 z28

Hi I'm a newbie and
I just got my 96 Z28 M6 and I most say I love it. I was into the whole import scene for awhile (no not civics with stickers and stuff lol ) I really like supras and rx7s but when I got my z I fell in love with its power. But I get bored very quickly with speed and I know that I will get bored with its speed sooner or later especially after I get my summer job. I was wondering what are the best mods to do. I know exhaust is some where on the top along with intake. After I get those I am planning on a throttle body and then I think I am going into the internals. I am selling my quad soon so I will have an extra 4 grand in my pocket and I probably will get a body kit so my car looks good as well as being fast. Can anyone tell me how to build a fast LT1 without risking reliability? Thanks in advance!

well first off...congrats on the purchase. these cars are alot of fun, both to drive and to work on(make fast)

second off....forget the throttle body, untill you add a cam and heads you are fine with the stock tb, plenty of other things to spend $300 on.

basic run down as i see it, major parts that is:

cold air intake
headers (long tubes if emissions aren't a problem, shorties otherwise)
cat back exhaust (good idea to throw a cutout on too... )
pro 5.0 shifter so that you don't miss shifts
computer reprogram from www.pcmforless.com or Madwolf (from this site)
suspension to tighten the car up and get traction:
-subframe connectors
-lower control arms
-relocation brackets (if you want to drag it alot)

4K on top of a summer job:

Cold Air - Used 100 bucks
Headers
Cut Out
Strong Clutch
12 Bolt & Fuel System (Fuel Pump, Regulator, Injectors)
Suspension
Nitorus

Joe Brodman ran mid 11s with a set up like this in his 94 Formula M6, stock internals.

You should probably do cai and catback first. The cat back is great because you get the performance boost and the sound. If you aren't in a state with emissions i would recommend a OBD1 conversion.

Congrats on the car, i know i was so pumped when i got mine!! I dont think there is a need to name EVERYTHING you should do to your car. Take it one step at a time. Start with intake and catback. If you have the money then you will feel the most from doing them both at the same time.

Reputable CAI (cold air intakes) - K&N FIPK, MOROSO, SLP

Catbacks- oh the hell with it everybody know a cutout is the best

Headers- Hooker longtubes, FLP longtubes, or if you need to pass emmisions AS&M mids.( like mine!!)

After you do those then come back and see us for your next move.

Get some Nitrous. I heard it works great with a 100 shot on a stock motor, but get exhaust and cai, then what everyone else said.

Thanks for the welcome I really appreciate the advice alot. There is a kid with a mustang in our school its older probably early 80's and he bragging about how his car runs 14.0 in the quarter. I heard that the lt1's run 14.2 stock is this true? I was just wondering I would really like to beat this kid(at the tracks of course) he is really snotty ya know the type that think they have the best of everything. I know 14.0 isn't super fast but for some reason he has one of the fastest cars in school that just shows how fast some of the cars are around here. One more question.... does any body know if it is ok to have long tubes in jersey? I am just wondering because I rather have long tube headers then shorties.

Driven correctly your car will go anywhere from 14.0 - 14.2 @ about 100 mph. He has to have some mods done to his fox body to have it running low 14's because those things are in the low 15's stock. He may be lying to you like mustang owners like to do. Just run him after you get like an intake and catback on just to be sure and dont forget to post it in the kills section afterwords!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will definetly post this kill. I am not going to do any racing yet until I get use to the car. I don't want to F*@# any think up by making a mistake. Thanks for the info.
