Just got 224/230 - the dowel pin is in too far...

I just got a slightly used 224/230 cam from a guy on this board. The cam looks good, but the dowel pin only sticks out a little less than a half inch. There is a pretty big difference on it and my original cam. Any ideas on how to get it out?

They can be pretty tight. Take it to a machine shop and they can fix you up in a couple minutes (if they have time ).

I would not risk having the pin too short. If the pin was like mine, you will end up ruining it trying to get it out without the right tools. Then you would have to go to a machine shop anyway.

About .600" is the typical number...any machine shop can pull it out and/or replace it for you. We pulled a buddies out with vise grips and some heat. His was a piece of cake...we actually had to do it on the motor. Fortunately the motor was on a stand though...would have been a bummer if we'd of noticed it later and not been able to get it out easily!

Do you have a vented opti?? If so you do need another one put in, if it's unvented it needs to be .320 so it will only stick out slightly..

yes my opti is vented, i was able to heat it up with a torch and pull it out in the vice. I got the stock one out as well, and they are the same length. I put the best looking one back in and tapped it down to .600"
