Unhappy Just dyno'd the car with GTP's & Hot Cam

Well not very happy but it seems my Air Fuel needs some addressing. I will post a pic of the dyno sheet later. They could not get a torque reading for some reason. They said they never seen that before. Anyway my max power was 345.3

Max A/F was a bit rich I believe. It ended at 12.2 but started at around 14 but droped straight down to the 12's.

My dyno before this with just the Hot Cam netted me 324.5 HP through cats. My A/F went from 14.5 to 13.5 on that one..

What do you think...

your a/f doesnt look too terribly bad. hell mine starts at 12.5 and ends at 10.5. still laid down 280/328 with stock heads and cam. maybe thats just the limit on a hot cam? not too shabby either way.

Strange since HP is caculated from torque and RPM.

Your obviously dissapointed, hopefully you'll find some more power with better tuning. Good luck to you on that.

It would seem that way wouldn't it? But this is not how a dyno measures your torque. All a dyno can measure is the RPM of the drum (and therefore accounting for gearing the engine) over time. Basically, using calculus, one can arrive at the actual horsepower and torque figures.

I bet with tuning you will hit 360 rwhp easily, probably higher.

Actually the a/f ratio doesn't look that bad. I think it'd make a little more power if it were leaned out just a bit. The 360ish someone mentioned sounds reasonable.
Why didn't they log it vs rpm instead of mph?
I don't understand why someone would do that?
Also, you have a pm.

They were very nice people to deal with over there but I am not convinced that they did thing right on the dyno.

Ahhh very good point. A dyno actually does measure torque though. A dynojet is actually an accellerometer. I think you are correct though that the dynojet accellerometer actually measures the HP then calculates torque, the more fundemental unit. Wow, my measurements laboratory was actually good for something! Good call HeadFL

Hydraulic Brake/Waterbrake engine dynos like the ubiquitous Superflow 901 load the engine, measure tq, and calc hp. The inertia dynos like the standard issue dynojet 248c however, as someone else mentioned, measure power based on accelerating the known mass/m.o.i. & calcs tq from that.

As far as I know anyway

I don't think that is out of reach. The 12.2:1 at peak HP is nearly a full point off! Most NA engines prefer right around 13.1 at peak HP.

I hope your right. I will be completely satified with a 360 RWHP dyno pull through a large stall like I have. (3600) I guess it is how it performs at the track that only matters. It runs good so............. I Dunno...

Take it to the track and see how it goes.
Dyno's are a good starting point but it really matters at the track.

Congrat's on getting things back together again.
Don't sweat it, takes time to fine tune it.

if a dynojet 248c measures acceleration then why doesnt a lower rear gear show a hp increase?

since it accelerates faster...
