Just completed the head light mod. w/pics and instructions

Just finished it. I got the info from one of our board members. I'm sorry to say that I don't remember who. Anyway, I posted it on my website with pics and instructions on how you can do it too.

Looks good. I'll have to try that. I bet I'll end up breaking one or two.

Wow, great minds think alike!! I did the same thing several years ago. I used channel locks to bust the factory bulb out of the housing and rubber bands to hold the new one in while the RTV was sealing.

I can tell you that mine have been trouble free for almost 3 years, no breaks, leaks, and it hasn't even burned out yet!!!!

Bravo! That is the best step by step description on how to do this project. Most other writes up say take bulb out of the housing and put new one in and use RTV and that's it. I have bookmarked your write and will do the same thing when my current bulbs blow (not like they already do).

Thumbs up

Looks great! Just curious, where did you get the bulbs, and how much were they?

I don't know that you actually said and I can't tell anything from the pics, but are they really brighter?

Lightbulb

The results certainly look great, BlackDog; especially since the existing wiring is used (unlike the HID mods some have done).

In your opinion, has the mod increased your night time visibility/safety? I hope so, as I would certainly like to replace those glorified marker lights GM installed instead of proper headlights; half the time I don't even notice when I forget the turn them on

You can buy the bulbs at any auto store, I got these at Autozone.

Yes, they are much brighter, pure white in fact. When I put just the low beams in and didn't do the hi beams yet, the hi beams had a yellow look to them.
I live in an area where there are twisting roads with no street lights and the factory lamps were just not cutting it for me. With this mod I have no problems now.

Just curious as to what you do when you need to change a bulb? Go through the process again?

Yes, I would use my Dremel tool and cut it apart. Then again, it's not often when you have to change a head lamp, fog/driving lights I change more.

So basically, you would just put a high beam bulb in a low beam lense, and a low beam bulb in a high beam lense right? Would it be a good idea to use a 25amp fuse instead of a 20amp fuse to keep the wiring safe?

BlackDog. Do you happen to have the part #'s for the bulbs. (Low Beam/High Beam) including the Fog Lamps? Thanks
