just a click when you turn the key?

ive been having problems with my batteries (optimas) you dont drive for a couple days they die and you gotta bring em back for replacements. well after putting a brand new batt in last night i just drove to work then this morning when i got in to go home i turn they key all the dash lights come on but just a click didnt even attempt to turn over. the starter isnt super new but its been replaced like 2 years ago. im thinking an alt has been killing these batteries could a bad alt cause this too?

bad alternator will drain a new battery overnite...had it happen 2 times.

take it to NAPA, they have a tester that can measure if the alt is pulling juice

I think mine just did the same thing, I Dont think my battery is bad since its A) 1 year old and B) has a green eye on it (ACDelco).
I ordered a new starter, the click it did happend every attempt for a few times, then one time it didnt click but just spun the starter. And every time after that i can hear the starter whirring away.

Re: just a click when you turn the key?

this just happened to me a couple of weeks ago when it got really cold here. i'd put in a fresh battery it was good for a couple of starts then no good. BUT all the lights came on, the radio still worked, interior lights worked fine, even that damn seat belt noise came on. so i was confused. well 2 batteries later, i replaced the starter and it has fired right up everytime. my belief was that the starter solenoid was stuck (i dunno how, it just happens). anyways, depending on what auto store you get it from you can always return if thats not the problem. but im pretty sure a bad starter is your problem. Note that is wasn't cheap to fix..

Try "tapping" the starter with a hammer. See what happens if anything. Worth a shot at least.

Most likely the starter happened to me to. Took it down to autozone and they tested it. Ran fine replaced it anyways and it ran. The starter had a bad spot in it so it wouldnt spin if it stopped in the right place. You can also have your battery checked if you think thats the culprit if the batterys dead then test the alt.
