one thing I just want to add. High mileage does not mean more problems. My LT1 has 168,000 miles on it. Only problem ever was a headgasket and opti

She runs 13.2 in the 1/4 with no tuning, on stock manifolds. I can't wait to get my headers on from Jet-Hot and get her tuned. She willl be a high mileage speed demon or a candidate for a 383 rebuild. Either way I'll be happy

Alright I am having a mechanic fix the oil leak on the front of the motor. If the opti was bad wouldnt it make the car not fire at all? Instead of this missing/skipping its doing? IM going to get a new set of plug wires and try and clean the oil off of and out of the distributor. Any other ideas?

no it would definitely make it fire randomnly....

I would fix the oil leak, replace the opti, plug wires, and plugs and go out and have fun driving it

Just so you know...in the future...the LT-1 isn't that complex of an engine to work on...it's just harder to get to, so don't be discouraged to check things out or try something yourself. Kinda wierd bout being able to see oil in the Opti...????. Unless he has X-ray vision. Clean the motor off like the other guys said and let it run...go over that baby with a fine comb...while it's up the air on a lift so you can see things better.

Well I just got done doing the water pump and opti. It took a long time. Hours and Hours. Lots of sh*t in the way. Any way it doesnt really run much better so it WAS NOT the opti. The only thing left is plug wires. They will be done tuesday. I will keep you up to date. Thanks!

We fixed it! It was the plug wires! One was worn right in half! Wow what a difference! Just an update. Time to get to the modding.

Glad you got it fixed. Next time do the easier and less expensive stuff first.......wires and plugs.....you knew you had a problem there and didnt fix that first......would have saved you alot of time and money. Wish I had seen the post earlier. At least you want have to worry about the opti for a while
