jump in compression worth it?

planning on doing headers soon enough and was wondering if it's worth it to go with a thinner head gasket to increase the compression
how much hp would it give?
i run on 93 so i'm not worried about increasing compression since the octane is enough already as is

Its not really worth it, I'd stick with the standard head gaskets. Stick with Fel-Pro's.

Just my 2 scents, I've done heads several times, stick with what works. Not saying it won't work, but I'd rather not deviate from the stock setup.

it's picky, but some argue better fuel burn and more effeciency with more compression. general rule of power is 10-15 hp per full point of compression raised. so by that, you're not gaining much, but for many its a state of mind.

Well, assuming that you'll still have sufficient valve clearance with the gasket you have in mind I would tend to think that the main benefit would be a tighter quench which will increase your detonation resistance. I mean, you might get a small power boost, but enough to notice...? I honestly don't know.

shave your heads to 50cc's then use a thin gasket thats worth 25hp or so

Re: jump in compression worth it?

In a LT1 block it's a good idea.....

The block has a higher deck height than a SBC and the stock gasket is very tall so going to a Impala gasket is really the way to go. It's still not even small enough to worry about

It isn't worth the trouble unless pulling the heads though is it? He said he is doing headers so yes he will be partway there but still a lot more work to do the head gasket over just the headers.

Nothing really it's just a head gasket swap....

If I was in there, I would do it. If you are going as far as headers it's just some more things to take off anyways.
