He's not gonna say he selling you a custom grind
and then send you a erson cam.
does it say erson on the end of the cam??
Re: Joe o Cam
Relax, there are hundreds of lobe selections at the cam grinders and he can specify his own or put together a combo of lift & duration that he likes from a stock library and have someone else grind it on million dollar CNC equipment and get it dead nuts to his specs. In that sense, it's custom, but not like he did it in his machine shop on his own cam grinder which you might not want anyway. Erson makes damn good cams, so stick it in, degree it, and good luck!

Re: Joe o Cam
Don't worry, like most guys that do custom cams they mearly spec it out for you and give those custom spec's to a company that actually grinds the cam, yours was probably ground by erson cams, but is not an off the shelf cam and a custom spec'd one from Joe ground by them...
Re: Joe o Cam
Joe Overton doesn't make cams, he designs them. Erson, is the manufacturer that he choses to have make the cams for him. So that cam is your Joe Overton custom designed but manufactured by Erson.
Re: Joe o Cam
ooo I thought it would be something like that, thanks alot for your help guys!! i dont want to post up the specs out of respect, but ill let you know what kindof power I put down, and put in a vid or something!! thanks again
Re: Joe o Cam
You'll love Joe's cams...Mine, however, did not dyno very well and when I posted the numbers I was told that something must be wrong, my cam made blah blah blah, I must have a problem, etc....Then I went to the track and posted those numbers. Then it was a different story. The dyno is a great tuning tool and thats it. Mine is an Erson grind also and its small for a 383, but it works well and still gets 20 mpg on the highway. The times in my sig are with my old shorties and stock wp...We've changed a few things this year and are heading to the track Friday...You'll be happy. I've never seen a Joe O cammed car run slow...

Re: Joe o Cam
Yup, most "cam guys" don't have the actual CNC/lathe machines. There are some smaller shops that actually grind cams (I've only used one personally, but I'm SURE there are plenty more) for different cam masters, but for the most part Comp, Crane, Isky, Crower, Erson, etc, are churning out the cams.

I don't have the money for the equipment nor the time to learn how to use it(at my age). Cam grinding with a lathe set up for cams is an art.
Most company's today do it with cad machines.
