Jet-Hot LT problems

I ordered some Jet-Hot LT headers for my 94 25th anniversary TA. The problem is the #1 primary tube that is suppose to go around the steering linkage. My TA has a solid steering linkage (not adjustable like the 95 and up), and the rack a pinion are different. Did Jet-Hot just send me the wrong #1 primary tube or does everyone with a 94 have this problem? If so, how do I get this setup to work?

Solid stearing linkage? Like no bend in it? If it is like my 94, there is just 2 11MM bolt you need to remove and tap it off from the bottom with a soft hammer (sledge or rubber). My jet-hots worked fine...I didn't even need to modify the stearing linkage. Just remove the stearing linkage, install the header with the #1 primary out, once installed, put the primary in (tap it in with a soft hammer) Line it up, bolt up the headers, put the linkage back in.

EDIT: actually, leave the linkage out till you have the other header in (for when you jack up the engine) and for putting the plugs and wires in.

Another 94 LT1 with no problems on the steering linkage or LTs. Take a picture if you can it will help us know what the problem is.

I love my Hooker headers which required no modification to my steering linkage. I also have a 94.

The headers are in, but while trying to put the linkage back in the #1 primary tube is in the way. Does anyone know if the #1 primary tube looks any different (the way it's bent) on the 95 and newer or do they all look the same? At least I know that it's possible to get it in now. I'll try and get some pics tomorrow if the problem is not solved.

They're all the same. Try replacing your motor mounts.

My jet-hots interfered with my steering linkage. They were hitting the metal collar that goes up on two sides, and around the rag joint, effectively making it impossible to turn.

BFH + long prybar = bent that collar flush against the shaft, and was able to turn freely.

Ideally, you'd either A: cut if off

or

B: get a rag joint eliminator, which I did. No more issues

Is there a different in the rack and pinion on the 94 and the 95+?
I know for sure that if I had the 95+ rack and pinion setup the linkage would fit (we tried it on a friends 95). Where the linkage bolted up was pushed to the left about 2 inches further than mine. There is also a difference in the steering linkage, mine does not have a rag joint and isn't adjustable, his 95 and my 97 have adjustable linkages and rag joints.

My 94 has a rag joint. Take a picture, AFAIK all LT1 cars were the same. Yours isnt. Could it have possibly been originally a V6 car?

no, it's a 25 anniversary trans am, my 97 v6 has the same rack and pinion and steering linkage as your SS (We checked it with a friends). I'll try and get some pics up tomorrow.

We also checked it with a friends 2001 Trans Am and he has the same steering linkage and rack and pinion as mine. Someone told me that it could just have a better suspension since it's a 25th anniversary.

here is a pic of someone elses 94 trans am GT. It looks like he had to bend the #1 primary tube to get the steering linkage to fit. What do you think?

Does your primary have a bend in it? Is it bolted up to the head allready? Mine looks like that from the factory, with a bend in the primary. Are you sure you didn't install the steering linkage upside down (if thats possible).

it has one bend in it when it first comes off the header, but down lower where it slips in there is no bend like in the picture. Yes, it is bolted to the head already and no, the linkage is not in upside down. Is it suppose to have those two bends in it like in the pic?
