Jet hot guys inside
I have a '96 LT1 I just reciently got a set of Jethot headers and hooker y-pipe. Well got everything bolted up and in there (What a PITA).
My problem is that the passenger side header is hitting the K-member?? Is this due to a bad motor mount? When the car is runnign you can just hear it hitting it sounds like crap. What to do?

It could very well be a bad motor mount depending on how much its hitting.. I took my jet hots off and looked at them where it was hitting the Kmember..
The K member ended up banging a slight dent into one of the primaries so it wouldnt hit. It would hit when i'd give it full throttle not when its idle or under regular operations.
I ended up changing the motor mounts anyways with my new engine build up.
If your jet hots are touching the K member without the car running i'd lean towards a bad motor mount.
You can always order an aftermarket bmr k member (drops 55lbs off the front). I was also thinking about filing down just a small section of the k member for it to clear better but decided not to... I eventually floored it enough and banged in the header just slightly so it now clears.
Also take a look at your brake line shield on the drivers side... Hookers have a tendancy to burn through the shield and possibly the brake line. Just make sure they are not touching.. if so just pull back the shield or bang the shield back some.

This is a VERY common problem with the Jet-Hots. I am having this problem with a stock K-member and I have a friend who has a tubular K-member and is STILL having this problem. I replaced my motor mount with a poly motor mount and that helped SLIGHTLY. I then took some header wrap and folded it up and wedged it between the header and k-member.
I put both of mine in from the bottom.
With it hitting on the K-member it just sound like crap when you are driving the car. Just listening to it bang and rattle around sounds like a big ol pile of poopie
How did you guys get it to not hit? Did you just tap the header with a hammer or something and flatten it?

i got a die grinder and took a little off the k member, solved the problem. and no strenth issues. you may also check the tranny mount. if you rais it just a little it may give enough room so you dont bang, or bend the hedder tube.
I may just take the heades off and tap a little flat spot in them??? I could buy new motor mounts and hopefully that will fix it. I'm going ot get under it and look and see if they are bad. How do you tell if the motor mounts are bad? What does a good one look like vs. a bad one?
The way I do it is have someone get in the car, start it, put it in gear, hold the brakes, give it a lil' gas while in gear, I watch the engine.........if it rocks alot (or things like headers hit place) they are probly shot. I'm not sure about motor mounts but, my transmission mount was VERY bad after oil got on it from the intake leak.
