I've got a CC306, what are the requirements?
Ok, I've got the CC306 sittin' in my room. I have read that a 3200 stall, 3.73's, and ported/polished heads are almost like requirements for this cam...along w/ tuning of course. Are these requirements actually true? I do want the 3.73's, but do I have to run a 3200 stall or higher? Would a 2800 suffice for this cam? The engine is bein' rebuilt after this summer and built to a 355. Streetable, but quick.
without those items it will be pretty bad at low rpms, maybe even stall out, I can't say for sure. I'm sure you could get away with a 2800 stall converter, the only thing is your car will not be as quick as it would be if it had the 3200, although the 2800 will have better street manors or a daily driver. The cam as a higher rpm range so taking off from a dead stop will be hell, probably alot of cam surge which feels like the car wants to stall out or sputter and shake the car. I would put in one or the other before the cam. Your car might be drivable without any of them, but the reason they say they are requirements is because the total package is what you look for. That cam needs all those things to run its best, the combination of all the correct parts. Many times people will put together an engine with mismatched combo and as a result are disappointed in the power output and performance. So my point is you can run without ported heads, but this cam makes its best power with them ported, and still even without you'll still gain lots of power. Why is the engine being rebuilt? If it were me I would do a 383 or 396 since the price won't be to much higher and you gain ruffly one horse per cubic inch added, ported heads will bring even more power, plus the bigger cubes will make the cam more tame and more streetable.
