They say the y pipe hits the floor board. Is this common? Does this happen only on automatic cars?

I'm doing my install soon and have a pacesetter y pipe and am wondering if I should use it or have one made at a shop. I don't want to have to dent the floor pans or anything like that to make it fit right.

If you floor it, the y-pipe can bang the floor board some. I would guess this is due to the chassis flexing a bit under load, which would be corrected by subframe connectors or some sort of chassis stiffening.

Is it a big problem? No, not really, as long as its not banging around all the time.

I had this problem, then i replaced my tranny and motor mounts with the polyurethane ones and that fixed it.

The old stock mounts were alowing to much flex and they were sagging.

My y-pipe doesn't hit the floorpan at all. The headers on the other hand hit the k-member every so often.

My hits a little at idle, under load it doesn't. My passenger's side header touches the k-member often.

My y pipe hits under throttle, any throttle. I even had the pipe bent a bit to get more space and it still hits. Very disappointed in the fitment.

I got poly engine and tranny mounts, still hit alot. So i just bent the section of floor pan thats right above the bent part of the y-pipe on driver's side with a jack until it finally stopped.. now it never hits.

oo, and you can't tell from inside the car the floor pan is bent.. you actually don't have to bend it that far at all. I bet you couldn't even tell its not supposed to be like that if you weren't looking for it.

If you take care in the installation, you will be fine. No bangs, no bumps, no nothing. I couldn't be happier with mine.

My ypipe wasnt fitting right so i took it to the custom exhaust shop around here. They ended up having to weld it together because part where it connects had the wrong number of degrees in the bend. They also stuck a long pipe into my driverside header and pried it down a little bit. Thats how you make the clearence so it doesnt hit the floor board.

I'd be scared that they'd mess up the head or something with all the force using that long pipe

I'm not feeling good about this. 11 replies and only 1 successful install.

yeah i was standing there like thinking of all the hard work i did watching them bend it down a little like its nothing. They know their exhaust though. so i trusted them. The guy said headers are a bitch to get to fit perfectly, you usually have to tweak em a little.

I have not had any trouble with my Ypipe. However, If I had it to do over from the beginning I would run the LTs into an H pipe, mufflers with dual turndowns.

I had no problems at all as well... stock mounts (though if I could redo it - they would not be stock)
