IRS on a Camaro
ive thought of doing the same thing myself, but unless you have like 5-6 grand laying around doing nothing, its just not realistic. I work in a shop were i could, given enough time, fabricate such a thing, but even with labor out of the way, a dana 44 out of a C4 still goes for like 2500-4000 bucks. just way too expensive. but it would be bad *** if it could be done. Ive sometimes wondered if you could get like newmans or someplace like that that makes the whole frames using C4 suspension for the 55-57 chevys to construct a rear frame piece that could be cut and welded into a camaro. but that would probably be a sh*t load too. then you have to set up the ride height, buy the coilovers, gears, set the caster/camber/toe, spacing, etc. more or less, its just money, how much do you want to spend.
i can only talk from my experience with thirdgen camaros, but since the rear is practically unchanged, should be fairly accurate info. IIRC, GM did a two car IRS f-body project a long while ago, it was successful, but the extensive amount of modifications required for the retrofit is costly...to the tune of about 5k, you have to use a c4 rear, as a c5 has a rear trans and won't fit. The gas tank and everything else should fit fine in stock location, you have to go to an aftermarket torque arm because the c4 uses a torque arm mounted on the passenger side...i'll post a few pics of another private install...
