Iron LT1

Will LT1 iron heads off of a caprice or impala ss bolt up to a regular 350 block?

Buddy is building a dirt track car and you have to use stock iron heads and intake. Everybody else is using vortech heads off of the trucks.

You have to use a mechanical fuel pump, carb, and iron intake. Is this even possible? Parts have to be stock! No aftermarket!

Nope, since a regular SBC is not reverse flow

Re: Iron LT1

I wasn't for sure. Could you build an engine that would meet the other specs with an LT1 block?

Re: Iron LT1

The only problem you have is with the mechanical fuel pump since the LT-1 has no provisions for it. My wifes car is a built lt-1, carbed with distributor, etc on down the line. We had to retain a electric fuel pump since there are no provisions in the block.
You could take a junk pump, mount it to the engine as a blank, route your lines to the "pump" and into the carb and use a elec fuel pump near the tank, but that may be a bit hard to get away with

I spent 10 years building dirt track cars with my brothers, so I know how the find the grey areas

Re: Iron LT1

Thanks for the info. So the fuel pump will be the biggie. We have already thought of an inline electic somewhere on the car where it couldn't be seen

What kind of intake are you running for the carb?

Re: Iron LT1

The heads will physically bolt on, but the water jackets at either corner towards the lifter valley are way different.

Yeah an electric fuel pump is a must, as said no Mech FP provision on the block. The funny part is that every aftermarket LT1 cam I have come accross has the eccentric for the fuel pump on it...lol

Re: Iron LT1

The Vortec heads coppied the ports and chambers form the iron LT1 heads, just in standard coolant flow heads, they are the easiest answer here.
