Ions tune

I was wondering if Ion changes the parameters of when the comp switches to closed loop with a 160 degree stat . I had a bolt on tune done by him and after hooking it up to a scanner i noticed it switches from open to closed loop at operating temp, with a coolant temp at around 180 and about 5-10 mins of running. I have an intermittent o2 code and am trying to determine if its the o2 sensor or my 160 stat causing it to switch from open to closed all the time without staying in closed loop.

Why don't you email and ask him about your particular tune?

Explain your problem a little better. The car shouldn't get all the way to 180* before it switches to closed loop and it shouldn't take 5-10 min. I would seriously doubt Ion changed the PCM to act in that manner. Are you saying that the car is swithching in and out of closed loop? My car was doing that when my VSS wasn't hooked up.

Stock tuning sets the transition between 120-140*F, and the typical timer seems to be in the range of 3-4 minutes. There would be no logical reason to change either of these (even for a 160* t'stat), but only Ion is going to know the correct answer.

What SPECIFIC code are you getting for the O2 sensors? Are your O2 sensors displaying activity withing the 3-4 minute time out period?

yes the car is switching in and out of closed loop. The code was heated oxygen sensor right side. code 13 i believe. My left side was reading around 4 mv and the right was reading 9mv they were not scaling (bouncing from from rich and lean like they are supposed to) I am thinking either i messed something up when i extended them 5 months ago for the long tubes or they are just getting old. Car has 140k on the clock I am the third owner and i have never changed them when i got the car at 124k. I am thinking maybe i used the wrong solder when i extended them and i also didn't heat shrink like i was supposed to so im thinking it is corroding and causing my intermittent stumble at part throttle, because it cleans up when i punch it and pulls great. And i know that the o2 sensors are ignored under wot.

And i would ask ion about the tune but he is pretty slow to return my emails last time i sent them so i figured that you guys would also know.

Sure sounds like an O2 sensor problem. There are only 3 things that you need to enter closed loop, and properly functioning O2 sensors is one of them.
