Intercooler On A NA Motor??????

i know its prolly a stupid Q, but why wouldnt a intercooler work on a NA application? i mean just as far as cooling the air down going into the motor. wouldnt that help some? or does it take a certain amount of psi to push air through one of those things??

just curious...

An air to air intercooler wouldnt serve any purpose due to the fact that the air going in to the intercooler is not compressed and is already the same temp as the outside air, so that wouldnt do anything. Why an intercooler works in a turbo/superchgd car is when the air compresses, it heats up, which is why an intercooler helps to cool the air back down to give a denser air charge. An air to water intercooler I would think would be more effective if it is filled with something such as ice water to cool the air even further. If you did this with NA it would be effective I would think only in hot weather and with minimal effect, but then the added restriction may hinder the effect. I don't think it would be worth the time and money to try to install one on an NA car, where the less intake restriction the better.

N2O

N2O is the best "intercooler" you can use for a N/A application
Depending on the jetting, you can gain up to 200 rwhp

I was at the car show, and my buddy was telling me, some Import guys get intercoolers and consider it a cold air mod on there n/a car. A good cold air intake and say a ram air scoop is more than plenty on a n/a LT1.

You'd just restrict your slow moving na air intake and slow your car down.. no good
