Intake and stock TB question

Gave som consideration to purchasing a 52 mm TB. But.. in the long run I don't plan to do anything besides intake and exhaust mods. Doesn't seem like I would ever make enough power to justify one. Plus... I did a search on the topic and it seems like even the Holley TBs have their share of problems. Will probably just buy a Holley air foil and call it good. I wonder though. Would an intake with a stock TB benefit from even mild porting? Do the stock port openings measure exactly 48 millimeters?

No, the stock intake manifold has 52mm holes.

Really? I realize it's only a couple of horsepower, but every bit helps. The stock TB isn't all that aerodynamic. The Holley ads in the magazines really like to quote the GMHTP article that dyno'd the Holley TB at a gain of 5.8. To me, that's worth $50.
