Question intake manifold repair

i am currently fixing my intake manifold leak and wanted to know if i should put rtv sealant on the intake gaskets? I know to put it on the front and back of the intake but not to sure about on the gasket itself. the haynes manual says to put in on the gasket around the intake ports. Sound right? I know its a newbie question but i need to know before i do this.

No, install the gasket dry.

Install dry, but I don't think it says to put anything around the intake ports on the manual. It says around the coolant passage holes on the head side of the gasket, but you don't need it.

Before I forget, I sprayed my intake gaskets with some of this.

i know a few that have used it on intake and some head gaskets. its not required but they like it. i guess they feel like it is a safety feature of some sort. needless to say they don't have any leaks. most people will bash you for it probally but you should be fine.

just make sure you run some rtv up on the head surface around the ends of the intake gaskets.

Yeah, I read that in a Haynes manual. Doesn't make sense to me. The LT1 is a dry intake.

I used Permatex Copper and put a very thin film on the gaskets themselves. I haven't really driven my car since fixing that leak, but it didn't appear to be leaking afterwards. I can't really speak to the longevity of putting RTV on the gaskets.
