Intake Air temperature sensor !!!!
Intake Air temperature sensor !!!!
Just wanted to know how important this sensor is. Right now my Z doesnt have it. I went back to stock intake except for the plastic elbow. The aluminum elbow I got has the hole for the sensor but the whole is threaded. Any idea if I can a sensor threaded?
Could I run my car like that without problems?

Re: Intake Air temperature sensor !!!!
Its only real use to the car is if you're running speed density. With a maf, its not really needed at all unless the maf was to fail. The pcm would then go by what the iat and map sensor reads.
In other words as long as your maf is working, you're safe without the iat. I personally wouldn't recommend it. I'm a bit ocd though.

Re: Intake Air temperature sensor !!!!
There appears to be adjustments made to ignition timing based on IAT. Why would you drive around without it, staring at the SES light? Did you at least plug the hole (whole???) in the elbow?
Re: Intake Air temperature sensor !!!!
Thanks. Yes the whole on the elbow is plugged with a bolt. The thing is that the elbow is not the plastic one, but an aluminum And the whole is threaded and smaller. So I can't put the slip on sensor. Any ideas is they have threaded sensors? I looked but nothing.
And there is no SES light. Yet

Re: Intake Air temperature sensor !!!!
I moved my IAT Sensor to inside my CAI Filter. It's really easy, it's just two wires and a you just need to extend them.
As far as I understand you can mount the Sensor anywhere in the intake path, but I've heard you get better performance by moving it away from the engine heat.

Re: Intake Air temperature sensor !!!!
Another possibility:
-drill the hole in the elbow out so you can put a grommet in it and push the IAT sensor into the grommet.
Since you aren't using your sensor, measure it and see if it could be threaded to match the threads on the elbow, or if the threads in the elbow can be made larger. Worth a try. Or check with the forced induction guys for a threaded sensor, because they need something that won't blow out of the elbow on high boost. There's a threaded sensor on this forced induction setup, right in front of the throttle body:

Do you still have the sensor plugged into the harness? That would prevent the code from setting. An open circuit will set DTC 23, and turn on the SES light. Are you sure the light is working?
