Insufficient O2 sensor activity???

The bird wasn't running all that great today and sure enough the SES light came on while sitting at a stoplight. I checked the code with my guage and it came up 0154.

Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) insufficient signal activity Bank 2 Sensor 1

(Thank you Shoebox)

Now the only thing I can think of would be that the sensor itself is bad or the wiring? My guess would be the sensor itself is done since it still produces a signal, but could wiring be of issue as well? I monitored both banks and the count difference from both banks are sometimes as much as 150.

Any ideas?

Yes you could still have a wiring issue. Check first for burns or other bare spots. Common problem with headers.

An easy test to do is unplug the sensor and jump the tan and purple wire to ground. Now with KOEO, check to see if the scanner shows an O2 voltage below 200mV. If so, wiring and PCM are ok. If not there are other things to check first.

When you are working with the jumper, be sure you pull the 20A fuse #10 under hood. This will avoid any potential problems by mistaking the pink wire which you don't want to use.

thanks for the advice speedy. I need some clarification on what "KOEO" means and will the car need to be up to operating temperature to do this? Meaning that I run the car until warm...shut it down and then jump the wires and pull the fuse.

Swap the two pre-cat sensors side-to-side. If the problem follows the sensor to the other side, its a sensor problem. If the problem stays on Bank 2, its a wiring problem, or remotely an operating problem with that bank of the engine.

Thanks guys. I'll do some testing and hopefully find my issue.
