Question Installing rear end gear ratio

Anybody out there that has installed 3.73 rear end, my brother is installing 3.73 and was wondering if there is anything to look out for during installation. Is there anything that he needs to make sure is done a certain way or is it pretty much just straight forward. Thanks for your time.

Has your brother ever setup a rearend?? If not then I recommend he lets a professional handle the install. You are going to need an indicator to set backlash, bearing puller and a torque wrench. The install is not straight forward.

Nothing different than any other gear install. You will need a shop press added to that list of tools. Hope your bro is experienced in doing this.

I'm with the two guys that hope he has experience doing this. I had a very mechanically inclined friend attempt his own rear end install; 3.73s in an A4. He got to the end of his street and pull out when he heard the snap. Strangely enough, the stock 2.73s went back in with no trouble. He had his other set of 3.73s pro installed.

I have friends that dismantle and rebuild motors that have other people install their rear gears. LOOKS easy...but the slightest imscalculation or alignment and SNAP!
