Installing Oil Level Sensor
Installing Oil Level Sensor
I drive a 97 Z28.
I took out my oil level sensor (with much strain) which broke and bought a new one ($48). because of the cat on my exhaust pipe, the bolt of the sensor wont go in or out straight.
How do i get this in? I don't want to force it and break the end off it and be out $48....
Please Help!

How much are you lacking to get it to go striaght in? what happened to the end of the one you broke the first time? I am hoping you got it out cause if you didn't.... be prepared for what a loose piece inside your oil pan can do
I found a piece of a broken pushrod in mine.... Nasty... thats all I'll say. If you aren't laking too much just undo the exhaust manifold or if I'm not mistaken the cat unbolts right there at the top on the drivers side just undo that and that should give you plenty of room.

I'm lacking about an inch.
We tried taking out the cat bolts, and it was pretty rusted- so of course one of them meefin broke.
So now we're gonna have to take off the other two, drill out the broken one, move the cat over enough to get the oil level sensor in, then get a new bolt and redo everything... needless to say the time of the job just tripled.
And yes, the endpiece of the OLS did break off into the oil pan when i removed it, but I doubt it'll hurt anything cuz it'll never get thru the filter... and i don't wanna remove the oilpan cuz it'd break the gasket and might start leaking there...
Yes it was $48 at the dealer, we checked around and no autoparts stored around here carried it...

Same thing happened to my Formula. After cussing the new one for about 2 hours, I finally put fresh oil all over the probe on the sensor and it slipped right in. Maybe I just got lucky and found the right spot. There's not much room between the oil pan and the exhaust.
Guess I'll try drenching it in oil...
I'll also try oiling the threads of the oil pan too- i had previously just oiled the threads of the sensor.
hopefully I'll get lucky too and it'll go right in.
Thanks,
Jay
