installing new waterpump.

Ok, I have the old pump out, but before I start to reinstall everything, I want to make sure that I am doing everything right. So first I need to clean the surfaces on the block really well before I put the new pump on. Should I use the RTV sealant for the gaskets on the block or on the new pump to make sure it seals? That is what I wasnt too sure about. Thanks guys!

Yes, definetely use some sealant. I think I used some thermostat housing sealant last time I did this.

Actually I just recalled that I helped another memeber with the install last time I did this and we used the copper, high temperature sealant because he didn't have any other sealant. Both should work well.

You can use some blades to clean the surfaces on the block side. I used a dremel with a metal brush on mine. Worked great and quick.

Used the copper RTV on both sides of the gasket and make sure to put the little cylinder on the back of the waterpump gear with teeth on the inside back on. If you have trouble getting the waterpump to push up against the block, the cylinder might not be lined up correctly.

You may use some rubbing alcohol to remove any coolant residue from the mating surfaces too, RTV always sticks better to an oil free surface.
