Question Installing new rear end???

Okay guys here is what I want to do.
I have the opportunity to buy a nine inch rear end that I want to install into my 95 Z28 (well, I won't personally do the install).
What should I look for in purchasing the right nine inch?
I know I will need it shortened, but are there certain specs? I know I'll need mounts for my disk breaks, LCA brackets, torque arm, what else? I know I'll need axles and bearings, what kind, and specific measuremend or what else I should get?
Basically I need any info. involved with purchasing and installing a nine rear into a Z.
I'm serious about doing this, so I would greatly appreciate anything anyone can give.
Thanks for your time.
Ben

Pre made

It's easiest to buy the 9-inch rears that are already prepared. If you were to try and get one setup for our cars by yourself, you would likely be saying, "goodbye" to your ABS.

What is the general condition of the 9-inch? Does it have a limited slip diff? Is the LSD worn? Will the gears and/or bearings need to be replaced? What gears does it have? How many splines on the axles? Have the axle tube to centersection welds been strengthened?

You also need the panhard rod mount, different mounts for the sway bar because the axle tubes are a different diameter, shock mounts and spring perches. And you will need a different length driveshaft, and if you are using an aftermarket TA, you will need to change the rear mount on the TA to accomodate the larger offset of the 9-inch TA.

Each one of these questions affects the final cost, and if you have to buy a posi, or new gears or new axles, you add that cost to the expenses of having it narrowed (or widened?), cutting off all the old mounts, welding on all the new mounts, and coming up with some sort of attachment system for the torque arm (it isn't easy... even the Moser TA mount is awkward, IMHO).... and you have probably spent as much money as you would have if you just called Moser or Currie and told them what you wanted. You could probably reduce the cost of conversion a lot if you are a skilled welder, with access to the correct machine tools, so that's a factor too.

Okay, that actually answer some questions. The 9 inch I was looking at doesn't have anything done to it that would allow it to fit into our vehicles, it does have a limited slip and is a 31 spline.
Injuneer, you did mention a lot that I hadn't thought about. I was looking at purchasing a Moser or Currie, but would that come with everything I need to install it already done, including everything Injuneer stated, or would I still need sway bar mounts, panhard mounts, etc. put on. If I by from them, would I lose my ABS?
I really don't know how this works, but truly want to do it.

I'm in the process of installing a GM 8.8" out of a Chevelle into mine.
