Installing LT's: Tranny on or off?

So, I've got the transmission out of the car because I'm upgrading the clutch. I'm also upgrading to Jet-Hot LT's from the MAC shorties.

My question is........should I put the headers on while the transmission is still off? Will that make it more difficult to get the tranny back up in there?

Or should I put the transmission back in BEFORE attempting to put the headers on?

Is one method easier than the other? Anyone with any experience, I'd love to have your opinions.

TIA.

It really doesn't matter. I had to pull and install my tranny 4 times in 1 day with the longtubes on my car, and there weren't any clearance problems.

No matter what, post your gains from Macs to Longtubes so you can put and end to the great header debate!

With my car, there will be absolutely no comparison. When you see the pictures of the headers and y-pipes side by side.....it's obvious which will provide more power in my setup.

Maybe I'll try to post the pics sometime.

Put the headers in, just don't put the Y-pipe on of course.

I'm also going to have the oil pan off in order to redo the pan gasket and rear main. Should I leave it off and put the headers in that way? Or go ahead and put the pan back on before putting the headers in? Will it maybe give me a bit more clearance without having the pan or oil cooler there?

It would be easier to put the headers on without the tranny in. The more room you have, the better, but it really doesnt matter that much.
