Installed Walbro, now problems.

I installed the pump yesterday and tried starting the car before i got everything back together. It fired up then died. Once the air was out of the line it will start up fine and idle perfect. The thing im concerned with is that when i just turn the key forword to the on position the pump will come on just a few seconds, then pressure jumps up to 43psi but then bleads down to 0 and i can hear the pressure release in the tank. Its an intermittent hiss. The crazy thing is that once i start the car, it has 43 psi and stays there. This doenst seem right. Shouldnt it hold pressure with just the key forward. Please help, i need to put this thing back together.

That is a little odd. The kit I got from Racetronix uses a walbro pump, and the last time there was a pressure tester on the fuel rail I don't remember seeing it bleed pressure off as fast as you are describing.

With that said, if it shows correct fuel pressure while running, I'd be inclined to put it back together and see how things go.

It should hold pressure at least a few minutes after the pump shuts off.
Yes, the pump will only energize a few seconds after the key is turned "on" and engine staying off.
Mine normally drops about 10# every 10 minutes or so after shut off.

Sounds like the check valve may be bad in the pump or you did not replace the black rubber check valve in the bottom of the bucket that is between the pump pickup and the bottom of the bucket.

Did you happen to put the flex hose directly on the metal line instead of using the black lock fitting off the old pumps flex hose?
That seems to be a comon thing to do also maybe the rubber O ring wasnt seated properly in the bucket. Two causes of leak down. It is unlikely that the cheak valve is bad in a new pump. The other thing might be a leaky injector.

I used the the same flex hose, I pulled it off the old pump without hurting it and then i slid it on the new. Then i put a hose clamp on it and made sure it was good and tight. I think i reused the rubber cup because it didnt come with a new one. Please, any other ideas? It runs fine but im worried that ill have to take the damn thing back apart.

Re: Installed Walbro, now problems.

I figured it out. It was the flex line where it meets the pump. I took the pump assembly out and wire tied it up to the bottom of the car so that i could still hook everything up. I put a dish of gas under it so that the inlet was submerged and turned the key and watched for the leak. I just replaced it with a regular hose. Its not quite as flexible is my only concern, but i dont see why the assembley piviots like it does. Is it just to help aid in installation?
