Installed Summit off-road y-pipe for 96-97 cars.

I installed my Stailess steal works summit off road pipe today. Fit wasnt the greatest. It came in pieces, with band clamps to hold it together, which i didnt like, will probably have to take it to an exuast shop to get welded together.

I had to shorten two strait pieces to get it to fit. They had to be shortened about an inch. I like it a lot, car runs very good, only problem is it hangs a bit lower than the stock exhaust did and i wasn able to get the crossmember back on (the one behind the tranny) without it hitting the I-pipe. I am going to have the exhaust shop adjust it for me when i take it into get welded.

I am very happy with how it performs and it compliments my slp shorties nicely. Car got about twice as loud witht the elimination of the cats.

how much was that ??????

any exhaust shop could have welded some pipe over the section where the cat was missing......if you bring them the car with the cat off then they should be in any trouble.

An exhaust shop can't not work on a car without cats. If a car was suppose to have cats, and they're removed the shop can't touch the car, legally.

I heard a story one time about a guy who took his car to a very prominent GM dealer to have the tranny fluid and filter changed. When they got the car up on the lift and saw that he didn't have catalytic converters they told him they couldn't service any part of the car unless they reported him to the state EPA authorities. Needless to say I guess he didn't have them work on it.

Yeah they will do that but the GM dealer near me are dicks anyways. When i was trying to figure out my misfire issue when i first got my car. They wouldn't even scan my car for codes because i had aftermarket plugs and wires. Even though i told them i didn't want them to work on it just scan it for the codes. They said i had to change the wires and plugs back to factory before they would touch it. Well after about 10min of b**ching at the manager i finally got it scanned.

LOL most muffler shops could give a rats ***. The will just write something else on the receipt... I bet you it's not the summit fitment problem it's probably your SLP's... I have these POS headers and I am getting long tubes when I get my stroker. POS headers I swear... I can not get them to seal properly and they were a bitch to get in with the stock y pipe.

I had trouble getting mine to line up too. The part that really gets me going is that they are supposed to be stainless steel, yet are starting to rust! Coated Hooker long tubes, here I come!

My slp's fit fine and i am very happy with them. My stock y-pipe fit the headers fine so im guessing that its the new y-pipe that doesnt fit correctly. The fit on new y-pipe is decent and i got it on without much of a fuss, but it just hangs a bit to low, should be easy for and exhaust shop to fix it.

It ran me $200. The pipe is mandrel bent 2 3/4 diameter, no way would a stock y-pipe outflow this with the cats removed.
