Installed new ignition switch: Is it bad too?

Installed new ignition switch: Is it bad too?
After all the drama thats been going on with my car, I was testing the ignition switch, wiring diagram shown here: http://shbox.com/1/ignswschematic.jpg
My problem: I have power at the red wire, 12volts, where it enters the switch. But i dont have any power at the yellow wire when I put the key into the "start" position.
I thought I might have had the switch in the wrong position when i installed it, so i removed it and hooked it up to a battery (simulating power comming in from the red wire), and tested it with the switch in every position. No position was giving power to the prong the yellow wire connects to.
So my question is, when the switch is only getting power from the red wire, and it is in the "start" position, should it be sending power to the yellow wire?
I took some wire and jumped straight from the red wire to the yellow, and the car started cranking right over. This means the problem must be in the switch? Could the new one I installed be bad?

Re: Installed new ignition switch: Is it bad too?
Are you sure you were getting the switch into the START position? It is going to be spring loaded so it kicks back to RUN when you let go. I have not heard of a new switch being bad, but I guess it can happen.

So all that needs to happen in order for the switch to power the yellow wire is it be working correctly and have power from the red wire?

For starting, yes. You should be able to use a meter to continuity check from the terminal for the red wire to the terminal for the yellow, when the switch is in the START position.
