Installed heads and cam...No brakes??

Hello guys. I FINALLY got done installing my heads and cam and now I have a couple of questions.

1. What happend to my brakes? Seems like I have to push them to the floor now? Anything I could have done with the heads and cam that would affect my brakes??

2. It doesn't seem like I have as much power as I did before?? I'm not sure if I did a great job adjusting the rockers. I think I'm going to have to take it to a shop to have them do it cause I just couldn't quite do it right I don't think. I mean there adjusted and it doesn't seem like I can hear them clattering but I'm running open headers so it's really hard to tell. When my exhaust comes in will it be easier to tell if there chattering or not??

Thanks guys.

As for the brakes, you probably lost a lot of vacuum with your cam selection, if you put in a big one anyways.

You'll lose braking, but not like your describing. I'd look for a vacuum leak somewhere.

Deffinatlly look for some kinda vacum leak. Did you plug the master cylinder vacum line back in? As far as your power is concerned, it will suck until you get some kind of exaust. Your O2's are likley to be reading some ambient air and throwing off the fuel mixture. I drove mine open headers to the exaust shop and went through 3/4 of a tank of gas and fould my plugs in the process. Needless to say, I was unimpressed by the "feeling". After the exaust though!!! It was one of the fastest hotcam cars with some of the highest dynoing hot cam numbers ever.

Hmm, your brakes shouldnt be that bad, because I am remembering your cam being smaller than a 227/233 i think. I just installed the cc306 and my brakes are fine. You should definitely make sure you have good vacuum, attach a gauge to one of the manifold ports to see. Are you sure the cam was installed correctly, dot to dot?

Also, there are tons of guys in the area, including myself that have adjusted rockers a million times, and would be glad to help with yours if you dont think they are right. A lot of the shops would probably over-tighten them, especially if you are running R lifters.

Great. I'm going to be putting on an exhaust on the car pretty soon. Do you think not having an exhaust will make it run weak like that? I mean it revs up just fine. I only took it around the block just to see what it would do, so maybe I should give it a chance first? Let it brake in.

As for the brakes. I really don't know about that. I'm pretty sure everything is plugged in right. Where is the vaccum hose for the brake and where does it go to and from?

Brandon, I really appreciate your offer. If you could email me your contact info. So that maybe I could call you or something to figure out if you can come help me with these rockers.

Thanks

The brake vacuum hose runs from the drivers side of the intake manifold, over the valve cover, to the large black canister mounted near the brake fluid resevoir, its kind of a hard hose to miss, so im sure you got that one. Do you have any tuning or anything yet? Open headers can make the car "feel" very different.

Oh yeah I got that hose on. Yeah I have my computer programmed by Combonation Motorsports.( Great People - had to plug them ). MMMMMM well then that could be my biggest problem is having the exhaust running open header. I'll have to put the exhaust on and then see how it acts. I hope my plugs make it. I have to drive open header to the exhaust shop. Chandler to Scottsdale. Still don't know what to do about the brakes. There is one vaccum nipple that I didn't cap off yet cause I don't know what goes to it. Its on the drivers side head. The bottom nipple hehe or the top one. One of those. I have one nipple going to the back of the manifold. Can somebody tell me where the optispark hose goes? Not the one that plugs into the intake but the other one. Does it go on that nipple that is open? MMMM that might be a new thread.

Thanks

Like he said, the opti has two hoses, one with the connection for the elbow, and the other connects to the intake manifold vacuum port.

Vaccuum leak somewhere, or you installed the cam wrong (likely IMO, i did it too and had same exact issues). Get a vacuum gauge on it, read it at idle, fill us in. I would guess you should be ~12 inches.
