installed h/c running terrible...

I just got done installing my LE3 package and upon starting the car up its running very rough. I'm pretty sure one cylinder isnt firing because it backfires at even intervals. Does anyone have any suggestions???

Double check the plug wires, you might have 2 crossed. If it's popping out the intake you might have the rockers to tight.

I see that you got the cam in,

Make sure and adjust the rocker 1/16 of a tuirn past zero lash. Just enough to keep em quiet. The rockers being too tight or cossed plug wire are the 2 most common things. Hopefully this straitens it out.

Make sure you have all wires/sensors plugged in correctly and nothing unplugged.

Do you have some type of tuning done?

The rockers were ticking a bit, so we loosened them up and now they dont make any noise. Will check the plug wires now, I got an email tune from ion. I read a post last night that sounded very similar to mine and he was a tooth off on the timing. Would timing being off a tooth do this?

The dots appear to be perfectly ligned up... we checked the continuity of the plug wires and all are good. I've checked over everything multiple times to see if there is some wires not connected but see nothing. We are completely stumped here.

Only way to tell if a cam is in correctly is to degree the thing in. The LE3 will have somewhat of a rough idle, but a missfire or having it installed wrong will really screw it all up.

Yeah, I never actually heard any noise from them, but my brother said he did. Im sure they were too tight and may still be, we're going to try to readjust them again tomorrow.

How do you degree it? What may we have done wrong if its installed incorrectly?

Re: installed h/c running terrible...

You get a degree wheel kit.

I'm actually going to pick one up as a loner for customers so they can install the thing correctly to make sure everything is right.

Re: installed h/c running terrible...

hey stroker, i didnt degree my cam in because it seemed from reading the threads on here that you would have to change your whole timing curve. Could this be causing my power issue? The car runs fine it seems, just has no power.

Re: installed h/c running terrible...

Well degreeing it in is so you make sure it's installed straight up. I grind all my cams with the advance in them (if there is) so you install them straight up. Sometimes you can install the thing straight up and it comes out wrong. I'm having one of these fun times right now.
