install starts tommarrow night--MACS

ok starting the rip down for my mac header install tommarrow night..any precautions or tips, hints.. how high can i expect to get the front end on jacks while holding the rear with blocks?

heres what i FINALLY decided to go with just need to pick em up tommarrow at speedinc...

--stage 8 bolts 1"
--felpro 1406 D gaskets
--all new NGKTR55's
--gonna need an O2 extension (12" sound ok?)

im not changing my o2 sensors even though i should at 87K! dont have the funds for that.
also im not changing my wires to 8mm OTVC like i wanted to b/c of funds (so stockys will stay in)

what are some tools n lubes n such that will make this job a lot easier?
i'll be doing this all by myself with the help of my pops a little at night otherwise im on my own..i have never tackled a job like this before..and frankly, im a bit intimidated. shooting to be done at the worst sunday night as im going back to school monday.
hints..suggestions welcomed
thanks i appreciate all feedback

ps..im following mac installation #1 on brent frankers website.

This is the highest my car ever was during the install, the rear tires were on the ground (blocked) and the passenger side of the motor was jacked up to get the passenger side header in. Hope this gives you a good idea of what you'll be up against. It was pretty easy.

You will most likely have to jack up the motor like i have in my pic. All you do is remove one bolt from your motor mount, which holds the two halves together. Then jack it up under the trans, and the motor will pivot on the driver side motor mount.

PB Blaster is a spray compound found at autozone, napa, murrary's etc. that eats rust and helps you break loose nasty nuts and bolts.

You only need to jack up the passenger side. For the install, do you mean tools or parts? The headers come with hardware and gaskets, but I used Felpro gaskets and ARP bolts. You'll also need a y-pipe that goes from the headers to your cat-back if you are using a single exhaust setup. If you do a search, you find tons of info on this question.

I thought macs went right in from the bottom without moving the engine

LTs on the other hand, are a different story.

I don't know anything about MACs but pappasmerf18 and I were talking about Hooker LTs. Yeah, I know, the thread's been hijacked

when i did my MACs driver's side went in from the top and passenger side from the bottom.

All I can say is good luck. It is pretty straight forward unless you run into strange problems.

Like someone else said..spray some rust eater on the bolts the night before. Makes removing the bolts easier.

By the way Breslin header bolts > Stage 8

Here's a few comments from my install.

I used the gaskets and bolts that came with the headers. It didn't leak at all when I fired it up for the first time tonight. I let it get nice and hot and then shut it off and will retorque the bolts tomorrow. Hopefully it will stay this way without leaks.

Don't spend extra money if you don't have to. Just clean the head surface good with a single edge razor blade.

Get antisieze for the header bolts, plugs and O2 sensors and Permatex copper gasket maker for the AIR bolts and drivers side slip tube.

Cool

Here is another Mac Install Guide that I used for both my 93 Z28 and 95 Z28. It is a very good write up. Here is the link for the install guide site. Good luck. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me.

I didn't have to jack the motor when i installed my hooker shorties. Just have plenty of band-aides around ya, trust me, you will have scratches all over your hands

good luck with the install. We got mine done in two days.. not too bad getting the manifolds off either, actually did that in no-time
