Install Keyed Hub without removing timing cover?

I want to install a keyed hub on my 93 LT1 and I'm wondering if this can be done without removing the timing cover? I think I recall the current key that I used on the crank also fits into the crank timing gear so I think I would have to pull that off to change the key? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

I don't see why you should have to remove the cover. There are two separate key slots in the crank. You should be able to install your new key on the forward slot and then put the hub on. The key for the gear should not need to be disturbed.

Look out for that woodruff key misslocating. It can take your hub out. It's best to grind a bit of material (taper) to allow the key to seat inside the hub. I destroyed a keyed hub by mislocation of the keyy while seating the hub.
