insane exhaust ideas??

some interesting ideas for true duals...

first has anyone ever thought of modding these "dumps" that MAC sells for mustangs to fit their H or X pipes? they have turn downs, mufflers and hangers all attached? for $200 it seems like it may be reasonably priced since no welding is really required, just a clamp to mate it to the x or H pipe.

and now for the really radical question:
has anyone considered trying to modify these dual exhaust, rear exit tail pipes from a mustang to fit over the axles of their Fbody? the loops going over the axles seem like they may work, some modification may be required to get the left side (background one in the pic) to clear the panhard bar. i would think you could remove the pipe just infront of the muflers and weld up straighter tubes incase it didnt' line up with an X or H pipe system. but since it's all bent, hangers installed and tips included, the price doesn't seem half bad...
some one with a lift and a welder might be able to piece together a pretty neat true dual, rear exit exhaust...

or have i been sniffing too much glue?

the dumps might work, but are radically expensive (IMO) for 2 mufflers and some straight pipe. The exhaust itself wouldn't work as the curve over the axle is much to narrow to fit around an F-body axle with all the suspension components and panhard bar there. If you've seen some of the over the axle true dual setups for F-bodies, the over the axle part is very wide, almost to the point of being a wide upside down V shape.

If someone wants to pull a stock Mustang exhaust and try it it would be interesting though! (rather than cut up a $300 aftermarket exhaust)

so you think the "loop over the axle" is too narrow? hm...

the only problem i see is that with the stang exhaust, once the pipe goes over the axle, it bends out towards the side of the car (hence the wider spaced tail pipes of the mustangs compared to fbods). i realize this would interfere on the left side with the panhard bar, but i was thinking you could alter this slightly to compensate for it.

the "over the axle duals" that i have seen route the pipes right around the differential, i think the mustang system may work. it would be an interesting custom job, and i do agree with the "cutting up a $300 exhaust", but it may end up easier and cheaper than having a shop do the work (unless you work there or have a hookup)...

as for the cost of the dumps...figure $50 for each muffler, $25 for the turndowns, $20 for some straight pipe, some extra $$ for the hangers, then the cost of welding it together (at a shop i mean)...you'd almost have the cost of those dumps...and like i said all you would have to do is clamp them (probably not using the flange they come with) to the X/H pipe.

like i said, it's just an insane idea i had while flipping through the MAC cataloge...

I meant use a stock exhaust for the first trial run that way if it boinks it up and doesn't work, your not out $300

i hear ya...good call...any ideas what size pipes the stock stangs come with? i know aftermarket sells 2.5" and 3"...so that makes me think it would be 2.25" or 2.5"...

maybe when i get my headers i'll start searchin the stang boards for some used parts...

edit:
how bout something like this jegs universal dual exhaust system? cheaper and may have wider loops for the axle clearance issue you addressed.
