Injectors, hi imped or low imped?

Learning about swapping to 36s. Accel offers high impedance and low impedance injectors. Which is recommended and why. Also, is the MAF on a 97 large enough to accommodate the larger injector and hp in the range of 450 at the crank and just what needs to be done regarding the pcm?

Want to do this right the first time.

thx.

You need high impedance injectors because that is what your pcm is set up to drive and the others will not work and might cause damage to the driver circuitry. Your MAF is fine, but you need to program the pcm for the new injector size. Not sure if the Accels are the hot ticket in injectors, and they are not cheap either.

Thanks. Haven't heard much about the best injectors or whether it is a wise idea to go fo remanufactured ones. It would be nice if maybe nascar used FI, at least then we could get a good idea.

You can get an outboard black-box that allows your factory PCM to drive low impedance injectors, but you don't need low impedance. The advantage in the low impedance injectors is that they can open and close faster. When you get into really large sizes, you need the faster injector so it can handle the small pulse widths required for idle. But you don't have that issue with 36's.

You might want to do a "search" on Accel. There have been a very large number of posts regarding problems with Accel injectors. I have never used them, so I don't know how valid those posts are.

Thanks Fred: I don't often go against the flow when a significant number of members complain about a brand or product.

I will take my time in deciding which brand to go with. BTW, who makes the OEMs for LT1. I know the LT4 go up to 30#. Are they DELCO? Maybe Delco makes 36s. I wonder how large the LS injectors are and what brand.

LT4 has 28 #/HR injectors

LT1 injectors were made by Rochester Products (RP), a GM division. RP was sold when GM spun off a lot of their parts divisions, and is now part of Delphi.

LS injectors are rated at higher flows, but they operate at higher pressure (58psi). When you adjust for fuel pressure, LT and LS injectors are similar in size.

Most people seem to go with the SVO injectors. Yes, from Ford. They have 30's and the lightening trucks came with 42s. I run a set of the 42s with no problems.
