Injector sizing if you are uncertain as to eventual mods.
Injector sizing if you are uncertain as to eventual mods.
I am using my current engine as a sort of test bed to try things out on before I spend the big bucks on the final engine. Plus of course, I want to really optimize the chassis before throwing more HP at it.
THIS engine, the one I'm working with now... I don't really know where I'm going to stop with it.
On the conservative side, we're talking:
Stock bottom end, Stock heads, plus a 100-150 dry-shot of nitrous.
(NOTE: I already have B.H. tune, headers, exhaust, converter & gears.)
On the less conservative side the bottom end is still stock, but the heads are worked up by Lloyd, have 1.6 or 1.7 Roller Rockers and Beehives and the nitrous shot is as high as 200, still dry.
I know that 36lb injectors would work well for the first possibility, but might be a bit small for the second, especially considering that the nitrous shot is dry (Zex kit). However, if I go too big on the injectors and never go past the stock heads/cam package, then I could run into problems.
What would be the best size injector to cover BOTH possibilities?

Re: Injector sizing if you are uncertain as to eventual mods.
What sort of dry nitrous setup are you planning on using?
Most of the dry kits boost fuel pressure when you spray, to supply the extra fuel. The only way you can add the extra fuel via "programming" would be to run an aftermarket ECU. Using the stock PCM, and boosting the fuel pressure only when you spray eliminates the need to size the injectors for anything other than the NA requirements. You might want something larger than the stock 24's, but not sure why you would be looking at 36's.

b) The vendor suggested them.

OK.... I'll play along. How does the ZEX dry 82018 kit add fuel? Does it boost the fuel pressure when the nitrous is activated?
But then you already seem to have made up your mind you need 36's, so maybe its a waste of time.
