improperly installed balancer - can this cause a problem?
Hi guys.... some of you might have seen my threads about getting my 383 started....
I was wondering if installing a fluidampner improperly could cause a problem with the rotation of the assembly.
Not knowing any better, we used a block of wood and a sledge to get it on. it is a 1 piece hub/balancer with a keyed hub. we smacked it on with moderate force until it was fully on. I have since been told that this is not the way to do it, so please spare me the grief of pointing out how bad this was - my question is can this hurt the engine's ability to turn over? It is difficult to turn over by hand, even with all spark plugs removed and no compression.

Weird, did you turn over the rotating assembly before you put it in the car, by hand? Im sure youve thought about the starter being bad, or battery. Does it make any weird noises while cranking?

When we removed all the plugs and turned it by hand (we needed about 50 lb/ft to turn it with zero compression) we heard a squeeking/rubbing noise from inside the engine for about 1/4 of a 360 degree turn.
