Well my wife wanted me to take her out for a spin today since its in the 60s and the roads are halfway decent. Well the car was actually hooking up halfway decent and I ran it up to about 105 full on it shifting at 5000-5300 and I heard something in the motor and let off and now my motor knocks. I can't really hear it at idle but around 1500-2000 you can hear it over the exhaust. My oil pressure is still fine and never dropped that I noticed and the temp is good, but I'm not sure what I did. My first thought is that I spun a bearing, but wouldn't it knock all the time, not just at 1500-2000 rpms?

What do you think is, I'm kinda stumped

 

Check for loose bolts.. I had a knocking noise in my motor before the spun bearing incident and it was a loose alternator bolt... it would cause the alternator to shift and rattle up against the bracket between 1800-2400rpms.

 

Is it a deep knock, like a mini sledge against the block or a ticking?

 

had the same thing happen to me exactly almost. turned out i melted a plug and had to rip the heads off the get the metal out of the plug hole. it was a real bitch. just tossin out the idea, i hope its not the same thing that happened to me!

same thing happen 2 me today.took it up 2 about5500 in 1 gears hit 2 shifted about the same and head a pop., now i got a knock but it dont knock till about 2k rpm,.,

 

Yeah, my motor has 120,000 miles on it and I think I took out the #1 rod bearing. I didn't spin the bearing but its knocking from there I think. I took the car out yesturday and tried to find the knock and after it gets warm it gets worse. I'm pulling the motor this weekend hopefully and rebuilding the bottom end and putting a comp 306 cam and ported heads on it with full bolt-ons so it should be pretty nice when its done. I have another post of what I'm doing, but I keep changing my mind LOL HERE IT IS

But if I get anywhere this weekend with the motor I'll get some pics of what the internals look like.
