Ignition upgrades??

Hi I won a 1994 Z-28 automatic. I'm thinking of upgrading th ignition system with aftermarket parts. I'm a little confused about ignition boxes. WOuld a box take the place of my distributor, coil , cap, and rotor, or do i have to buy upgrades for these as well.

Nope, a box will not replace all those.

If you're not going to be running nitrous, I'd suggest either spending the money elsewhere or just installing fresh wires and plugs. The boxes like the MSD 6A really don't do much of anything wrt power gains or mpg on a computer controlled engine with an ignition system in decent shape. If the ignition system is not in decent shape, the box is not the way to fix it anyway.

If you want to learn more about aftermarket ignition systems, do some searches on LTCC and Dynaspark (dynaspark is a beefed version of the stock optispark distributor). There's another one that uses 4 coils instead of the 8 used by the LTCC, I can't remember what that one's called right now though. Maybe someone else will chime in with that

So what's a good way to get rid of problems associated with an optispark system? I guess I'm a little confused as to how the system works compared to a standard ignition system and a digital system like the LS1.
