Ignition trouble

The guy who lookied at my car thought the MSD box was the trouble for not starting, but after a day its the same. So i was going to check the coil, but i want to run this by and see what some of you say.

Just before it died, i noticed that the engine ran for a few seconds while the RPM dropped to 0.
1 minute later the car died.

Had datamaster while it happened and it said teh same thing so i know it just wasn't the tach.

What would a bad coil do. Would it throughn any code?

Did you try bypassing the MSD? If the coil just dies, it won't set any particular codes, though you might possibly get a related misfire code out of it. Check your coil fuse and connections at the coil.

I did disconnect the MSD and that is what got me home. I drove it home and the next day i drove it to the parts store for my buddy and the next day i wanted to log data for datamaster and that is when it started again. So both stock and MSD acted the same.

I asked about the code cause if you sit there it might start up for 5 seconds but will shut off and then it came back with code 16.

I replaced the opti less then 100 miles. Third opti at that.

I just found someone with a coil so i'm going to pick it up and see what happens. I will also check the fuses.

DTC 16 is low resolution pulse. That does not sound good. I would look at all the electrical connections to the opti. If you recently put in a new cam, I hope you are not victim to the "dowel pin too long" syndrome. It's an opti destroyer.

i did do the cam last winter and no problem after the swap. The only time the code 16 comes on is when it is dead and you try to strat her up over and over. No codes have been through when driving.
