ignition switch?

ok..went to go try to start my car like 45 min ago and my igintion it click click BOOM!!! i think it broke, well i know it broke...now the lil ignition lock thing is sticking out farther than it suppose to and now i cant even turn on my car...it just moves back and fourth with lots of force...but every now and then it will just turn the RADIO on...wont even turn on my ses lights, low oil lights etc....is this the iginiotn switch that broke and iginiotn lock or iginition cylinder??? or all 3 of em? i know im going to have to go to GM and buy the dumb key and have it reprogrammed to my pcm...which this is prog going to run me about 200 bucks for everything..cause gay dealerships charge likie 100 billion dollars for like 1 hours of work!!!

Looks like you will have to do some dissecting to figure out if it is the key cylinder or the switch. It is a little hard to tell from your description. There is info on my Tech Page for replacing the ignition switch that you might find useful. You could pull the switch off the actuator rod and see if your key cylinder functioned normally.

If you have to replace the key cylinder, you should be able to have it set to match your existing key.

There is also an exploded view of the steering column on my site if you need it.

What i did when my cylinder went bad was bought one at the Zone and then went to Radio Shack and bought the resistor that was the same resistance as the chip in my key and wired the resitor inline to the to the plug which the wire would normally connect to and for 1.25 at the Shack saved myself a whole lotta cash at ant shop. Hope this helps. Butch
