Ignition Question - 97 LT1
Sitting in the carwash my SES light starts blinking then goes solid car starts idling a little rough. I checked and cleared the code P0300 misfire, etc. I have the vented OPTI and am curious if it could have just had moisture fog up the opticals or could it be wires and plugs needing replacement? It runs just fine right now with no SES. I'm installing MSD or Taylor wires and NGKTR55 plugs & new cap/rotor (OTPI @ 69K miles should be fine) in about a month after I install long tube headers. But I'm curious as to whether or not the wires could be faulty and need replacing now? or if it's just the OPTI got a little moister in it from the car wash?
Thanks
Thanks

There's a million things that can make them throw that code. If it happened right when you went through the carwash, I'd bet that your cap got wet. The optis have a horrible seal between the cap, middle piece & rotor itself. They tend to loosen up &/ or deteriorate. Personally I've seen a few that have loosened within a month after installation, mine included. If you're going to take it off anyway checking out the opti would be a gould idea. Make sure there's no rust on the degree wheel itself inside the rotor. The sensor itself is like a CD lens so treat it as such. New caps come with new seals. I'd recommend using them.

I wouldn't go thru a car wash with a Opti that's on it's way out. After a couple more time with water say bye bye..
