ignition key problem please help asap

ok, (1996z28) i was driving my car yesterday and i was going about 50 and out of no were it died out....., so i pulled over and it started up with no problems so i was on my way again... i parked the car for about 4 hours. then i turned the key on and there were no dash lights. so i tryed starting it and when, i put it on the cranking postion the lights came on and it started, and then it died, down the road again but this time to keep it running i had to hold it on the starting postion and i had to drive it home like that ........so basicly when i turn the key onto the power postion there is no power and when i am cranking it there is power and after it starts i let go of the key and it die's out

please help me thanks

Ignition switch

Sounds like the ignition switch took a crap on you man. I had a toyota camry at work that did the same thing a couple days ago. You had to hold the key in a certain position to keep it running. The lady had a s*** load of keys on the key chain. The car was a 2000 model and the only thing i can see is all the weight was the reason for the premature wear on it. Hope that helps.

Sounds like the switch to me. You can find some info on replacing it on my Tech Page.
