Ignition contol Module and heat transfer grease

Just saw Johns post on remote mounting of ICM. I just replaced mine a couple months ago without the grease, how long does it take for it to be damaged?

It could take minutes or...whenever. Heat kills electronics, sometimes slowly. Remember, it is heat transfer grease-not dielectric grease.

Re: Ignition contol Module and heat transfer grease

Well I wonder if I fried mine, I have had some popping going on under the hood on acceleration.. sometimes. Seemed to start on one of the first hot days this year. I have been trying to troubleshoot some EGR issues in another post and thought the misfire was related to that. Maybe its the module instead of a lean misfire related to the EGR. Where can I find the thermal transfer grease? I could just replace the module. And continue with the EGR problem.

Auto parts store or Radio shack should have thermal grease.

Re: Ignition contol Module and heat transfer grease

Replaced ICM with Thermal grease this time, went out flogged the car all afternoon. Runs like a scalded cat. Conclusion... I fried my ICM by not using the grease. Would have never known had I not joined you guys last week and saw Johns post, was chasing ghosts! Also spaced it off the head using the washers and putting it on the other side of the nuts. Car is doing 100% better.
THANKS!
